Kent graduated from the College of William and Mary's Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1988, where he was on the Law Review. In 1983, Kent obtained his bachelor's degree in business administration from Western Michigan University.
Kent focuses his practice primarily in commercial and civil litigation, including creditor's rights, contract disputes and construction liens, business formations and transactions, real estate, including foreclosure transfers and representing landlords, employment relations, and social security disability cases.
A member of the State Bar of Michigan since 1995, Kent was first admitted to the bar in Virginia in 1988. He practiced with a small law firm in the Washington D.C. area before joining Steffel and Steffel in 1995. Kent was also admitted to the District of Columbia Bar in 1991 and the Maryland State Bar in 1994. In addition to his active membership in the State Bar of Michigan, where he is a member of the Representative Assembly, Kent is a member of the executive board and has served as president, vice president, and secretary of the Calhoun County Bar Association. He is also a member of the American Bar Association.
Outside of work, Kent is involved in various community activities, enjoys running and sailing, and relishes time with his family, including his wife, who is a middle school teacher, and two cool daughters.
